Set an alert and we’ll email you the moment one appears. Around 95% of legs don’t match a first search — they come and go daily, so watching a route is how most people actually fly one.
Flying both ways? Book any leg and we’ll find or pair your return — plus transfers, catering, pets in the cabin and the full itinerary, handled end to end.
Most legs into Palm Beach come from the New York area, with others from the Bahamas and Arizona.
An empty leg is a private jet flying without passengers, usually to reposition for its next booking or return to base. Because the operator is flying anyway, the aircraft is offered for up to 75% less than chartering it in the usual way. If you need a private jet in Palm Beach this winter, the board above shows the live legs touching Palm Beach International and Boca Raton.
Palm Beach International (PBI) is the main airport, three miles west of West Palm Beach. Boca Raton, North Palm Beach County and Stuart take much of the rest. Where your empty leg lands is set by the operator, so it helps to know what each offers. An FBO (fixed-base operator) is the private terminal where you check in, meet your crew and walk out to the aircraft; our guide explains what an FBO is.
Distances are straight-line from the main airport, calculated from published airport coordinates, in nautical miles. Check customs arrangements with the operator or FBO before any international arrival.

The runway is 10,000 ft, so anything from a turboprop to a Gulfstream can use it, and three full-service FBOs (Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Signature) operate around the clock. Arriving from abroad, you clear US Customs at a separate inspection building, not at the FBO, and the crew must request permission to land in advance (CBP fact sheet). Noise abatement procedures apply, so ask your operator how they affect a very late arrival or an early departure.
About 18 nautical miles south of PBI, right beside the city. It has one 6,276 ft runway, FBOs run by Atlantic Aviation and Signature, and customs on a user-fee basis. The natural choice for Boca and Delray.
The quiet one, about 12 nautical miles north-west of PBI. Its paved runways are 4,300 ft with a 30,000 lb weight limit, so it is for turboprops and light jets only. Signature is the sole FBO. There is no customs, so it is for domestic flights.
About 31 nautical miles north of PBI, a mile from Stuart. A 5,828 ft runway, FBOs from APP Jet Center and Atlantic Aviation, and customs on a user-fee basis. Handy for Jupiter Island, Hobe Sound and Port St Lucie.
With an empty leg the route is fixed and the price reflects that, so the right airport is usually whichever one the leg uses. When you are choosing between two legs, or pricing a full charter, some rules of thumb help.
The busiest line runs north to New York. Teterboro or Westchester to Palm Beach is about 900 nautical miles and roughly two and a half hours in a light or midsize jet (flight time: SkyAccess). Our New York private jet hire page covers the airports at that end.
The Bahamas are the shortest international hop. Nassau is about 175 nautical miles away and takes roughly 45 to 50 minutes in a light jet, and you clear US Customs on the way home. Further south, jets bound for St Barths land on St Maarten, because St Barths’ own runway takes only small turboprops, and empty legs to St Barths pick up through the winter. For the wider picture, see our guide to private jets in the Caribbean.
London needs a big jet. Farnborough is roughly 3,780 nautical miles away, beyond a super-midsize such as the Challenger 350 with its 3,200 nm range (Bombardier), so you are looking at a large-cabin aircraft and around eight to nine hours. Transatlantic empty legs are rare, so most London trips from here are full charters; see transatlantic empty legs for what to expect, and private jet hire London for the arrival airports.
Miami is only about 55 miles south, and some Florida legs are listed into Opa-locka or Fort Lauderdale rather than Palm Beach. For those airports, see private jet hire Miami. For every other city we cover, browse our private jet hire destinations.
Empty legs are priced for the whole aircraft, not per seat. Share it with the people you are flying with and the cost per person falls with every seat you fill. The operator sets the price against a flight that would otherwise earn nothing, and it can move as the departure date gets closer. Every price on the board follows the currency picker, so you can compare in dollars, pounds or euros.
A full charter costs more because you pay for the aircraft to reach you as well as for your flight. That is the gap an empty leg closes, and why it can cost up to 75% less. For hourly rates by aircraft class, see private jet rental costs by class and our guide to private jet charter cost.
If there is no leg on your dates, the “Didn’t find your leg?” tool below prices a full charter on your route in seconds, so you can compare the two.
Season runs from roughly November to April, busiest from January to March (Champion Traveler). Empty legs follow the migration. Jets fly owners south in November and December and often return north empty; in April and May the flow reverses, with empty legs heading back down to Florida. Our guide to empty legs by season shows how the pattern plays out across the year.
Because the crowd travels in one direction at a time, the leg worth watching is usually the one going the other way. Out west, Scottsdale’s winter season runs to a similar calendar, so aircraft often move between the two.
From June to November the Atlantic hurricane season runs, peaking in early to mid September (NOAA). Expect a thinner board, and weather can move or cancel a leg at short notice, so read what happens if an empty leg is cancelled or delayed before you plan around one.
When the president is staying at Mar-a-Lago, about three miles east of PBI, the FAA normally publishes a temporary flight restriction (TFR): a block of airspace with extra rules for a set period. Private flights still operate, but with more paperwork and less room for late changes. Passengers and crew may need to be screened in advance, and a leg can move to a neighbouring airport. Your operator handles the filings; send passenger names as early as you can. Current restrictions are on the FAA TFR list, and customs arrangements during a TFR are worth confirming with your operator.
Palm Beach legs come in waves, and most are listed days rather than weeks ahead, so the people who get them are usually the ones with an alert set. Our guide on how to find empty legs explains why a route alert beats checking the board each morning.
